Tobacco Road house fire apparent arson to hide murder

AUGUSTA, Ga.---Investigators have identified and charged a subject in connection to a body found at a house fire in the 1700 block of Tobacco Road.

56-year-old Paul Franklin Blevins is in custody, charged with murder, theft by taking motor vehicle and various traffic offenses.

At approximately 5:40 on Thursday (April 4), the Richmond County Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Tobacco Road. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the deceased body of 62-year-old Danny Lawson Jones.

Investigators arrived on the scene and discovered that Jones had suffered blunt force trauma his head.

The investigation revealed that the victim’s vehicle a 1998 black Ford Truck was missing. It was discovered that earlier that same day, Jones' vehicle had been stopped by deputies and Blevins was driving said vehicle.

Blevins was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI and booked into the Richmond County Jail. His clothing had visible blood stains.

Blevins had known Jones for several years. Jones was a teacher at Hephzibah High School.
