AUGUSTA, Ga.---Tonight, the annual Drive for Show, Rock Fore! Dough concert kicks off at First Tee of Augusta.
The stage was set, the tents were up, the merchandise was unpacked, and the VIP tables were ready for the party. Only a few final touches were left before the big crowd arrived to fill the green.
"It's a really fun event," said event promoter Joe Stevenson. "The crowd is always great, and it's just a great time of year here in Augusta."
It's the third year for the concert, and the first time the event will go on without headliner band Hootie and the Blowfish.
"We've had a lot of people say, 'Why not Hootie and the Blowfish again?' Well, at some point you're going to want to keep everything fresh so the event does live on in the community," said Jill Brown of First Tee.
Perhaps bringing in other big bands was just the ticket to get the event even more recognition. Two Florida State students, David Kraynick and Whitney Fruge, came to see Dashboard Confessional, driving six and a half hours from Tallahassee to be the first in line.
"I want to be front and center right there," Kraynick said. "I always am for Dashboard concerts."
The event's organizers are banking on more die hard music fans like these two to help match the $90,000 raised for the First Tee last year.
