On Your Side: Daylight Savings Change

Daylight saving time is happening a week early and you're going to want to set your clocks ahead this weekend.

You probably know how to set your alarm clock and your watch ahead, but what about your computer?

Actually, it's a lot easier than you think.

Tom Chedester has been working on computers for years. Today, as a team member of Augusta.net, he helped a client get through what seems like a confusing problem: convincing your computer that daylight saving time is happening three weeks earlier than usual.

"Best way to fix that is to go to a website and get an upgrade," Chedester said.

The website you should go to is the one that makes your software, be it Microsoft, Macintosh or any other brand.

"It's actually easier than changing most software."

You go through a few choices, like which operating system you have and what type of email system you use.

Once you've clicked next a few times and downloaded an update or two, voila! You're done.

All of that takes less than a minute. It's certainly a lot less intimidating to correct than the last time there was major computer confusion.

"A lot less fear than Y2K by a long shot," Chedester said.

If you have another electronic device like a Blackberry that plugs into a computer, go through the same motions. Find the manufacturer's website and find the update.

If you're still having trouble, just dial the 1-800 number for the manufacturer and they should be able to help you out.
