NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.---They took Aiken County Sheriff's deputies on two high speed chases, and now two men are in the slammer.

It started as one police chase, and then it turned into two when another driver decided to get in on the action.

An intense police chase in North Augusta last night started on Old Aiken Road and ended at Lorraine and Carolina Springs Road.

Aiken County Sheriff's deputies were trying to pull over 26-year-old Jermaine Tillman. They say he refused to stop. Deputies were finally able to stop him, but as authorities arrested him, another driver, 19-year-old Frederick Broadwater is accused of hitting the arresting deputy in the leg and driving off.

Michael Bussey saw the whole thing.

"He was coming around the corner pretty fast, because it looked like his tires were starting off the ground, and he started spinning out of control over here and then he rolled into some grass," Bussey said.

Broadwater's car ended up overturned in a ditch, which ended the chase.

The deputy was not seriously injured, but authorities have charged Broadwater with assault and battery with intent to kill and failure to stop for a blue light and siren.

Michael Bussey says it's a good thing it ended when it did, as it could have been worse.

"If any kids were out here, he could have hit them, and I'm surprised her missed the mailboxes from the people's yards," Bussey said.

Tillman and Broadwater are being held in the Aiken County Detention Center.
