HAMPTON, S.C.---A train hit a logging truck in downtown Hampton on Highway 278 this morning. It happened along Highway 278, or Elm Street, around 8:15 am, near Westvaco Logging and in front of a Bi-Lo.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol tells us Herman Breeland of Allendale was trying to cross the tracks on a private drive when the train hit the right side of his tractor trailer truck.
A Savannah television station is reporting Breeland was thrown through the windshield of his truck.
Breeland was taken to a hospital by helicopter.
The crash is still under investigation.
