EMANUEL COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- Deputies from the Emanuel County Sheriff's Office found 6-year-old Dena Burns unconscious in a neighbor's pond Thursday, according to a news release.
The girl's parents, Preston Burns and Sonia Rich, called deputies after their child went missing. They told deputies she had autism, walked away from the home and that the girl liked playing in the water.
After 30 minutes of searching, she was found in a neighbor's pond and transported to the hospital where she later died, according to a news release.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday in Atlanta.
The sheriff says foul play is not suspected.
