It was a somber sendoff for a brave soldier.

Today, the city of Barnwell said goodbye to Chief Warrant Officer Jason DeFrenn. Chief DeFrenn was buried right outside of the church where he grew up.

Today was supposed to be a joyous day, because Jason was scheduled to be home to see his newborn baby. Instead, the community is mourning his loss.

Chief DeFrenn was awarded the bronze star and Purple Heart, full military honors.

He leaves behind a wife and four children. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make donations at enterprise bank in Barnwell.
