Funeral for CW2 DeFrenn today

A patriot will be laid to rest today.

Funeral services will be held for Chief Warrant Officer Jason DeFrenn at the First Baptist Church of Barnwell.

It starts at 2 o'clock this afternoon.

DeFrenn was killed in Iraq when his helicopter was shot down.

Norwood remembered

Friends, family and colleagues remembered the life of seven-time Republican congressman Charlie Norwood yesterday.

People from as far as Washington, DC came to First Baptist Church in Augusta for a memorial service that seemed to touch on every aspect of Charlie Norwood's life: his work as a doctor, his service to his country as an army dentist, and his years fighting for the people on Capitol Hill.

Filling Norwood's seat

Charlie Norwood has left some tough shoes to fill, and that's what a special election will do for the 10th district.

Governor Sonny Perdue has ten days to call a special election. 30 days after that announcement, the election has to take place.

State Senator Ralph Hudgens, who lives near Athens, has already said he will resign his state senate seat and run for the congressional seat.

The list of candidates could be a long one since there's no limit on who can run.

Barack Obama coming to South Carolina

The Obama wave is coming to the South.

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama will be in Columbia, South Carolina today and then Orangeburg tomorrow.

Democratic Party leaders say the Illinois senator will have to do as much as any other candidate to win the support of blacks, who make up about half the Palmetto State's Democratic voters.

South Carolina's Democratic Primary is on January 29th of next year, one week after New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary.

Peanut butter recall

Parents might want to re-think packing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for kids' lunches.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control says 300 people are sick in 39 states from a salmonella outbreak from peanut butter. That includes Georgia and South Carolina.

The company ConAgra is recalling all jars of Great Value brand peanut butter with the number "2111" on the lid, and all jars of Peter Pan peanut butter.

If you have one of the recalled jars, throw it away, but save the lid. You can call 1-866-344-6970 for information on how to get a refund.

Man arrested in credit card fraud scheme

Richmond County deputies believe Michael Robinson is behind a recent credit card fraud scheme in the area.

Deputies arrested him this week. He's accused of calling people pretending to be a fraud investigator and getting them to reveal personal information so he could order credit cards.

He is charged with three counts of financial transaction fraud.

Deputies say the investigation is ongoing, and more arrests could come.

Remember: don't give out any information to anyone who calls claiming to be your credit card company. Your bank already has your information.

DNA matches suspect to Walton Way rape

A rape suspect is tied to a rape on Walton Way.

Michael Blocker was arrested for attacking a woman when she got home from walking her dog.

Now investigators say Blocker's DNA matches a sample from the victim's sexual assault kit.
