Barnwell soldier dies in Iraq

A Barnwell family is mourning the loss of a life and celebrating the birth of another one.

34-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Jason Defrenn was killed last week in Iraq. His Apache helicopter was shot down just north of Baghdad.

His family says he was supposed to be home next Friday to see the birth of his fourth child...but his son Christopher was born three days after he died.

"He wanted to make sure his children were safe, this country was safe," Jason's father Garth told News 12. "I believe in my heart he had a notion he wouldn't come back, but he was fearless."

Garth says his son's body will return this week.

The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church.

Norwood comes home

US Representative Charlie Norwood is back home.

News 12 has exclusive video of the congressman returning to Augusta last night.

He's home after deciding not to get any more hospital care for lung cancer. He also declined surgery to remove a tumor on his liver.

Congressman Norwood will receive 24-hour hospice care in his home in Augusta.

He's been getting treatment in the Washington, DC area since November.

Norwood has non-small cell lung cancer, and it spread.
