Bus driver shot behind middle school

A school bus driver was picking up her bus this morning from the bus barn on McKenzie Street when someone shot her several times. The barn is behind North Augusta Middle School.

The driver is in critical condition at MCG.

No students were on the bus at the time.

Investigators have a suspect in mind right now, but they aren't releasing his or her name to us at this point.

That suspect is not in custody.

Investigators also believe this shooting wasn't random--that the bus driver was targeted.

"Law enforcement has a motive," Det. Tim Thornton told News 12. "Law enforcement has an idea of the background. But it's under investigation right now, and we're going to run down some of the leads that we have before we're going to go public with any type of motive."

The school is not on lockdown at this point.
