AUGUSTA, Ga.---Student registration has been a hassle for Angie Miller.

"When we left that school she was crying saying "mommy, am I going to be able to go to school? Why are they doing this? Why are they being so mean? I just want to go to school," Angie Miller said.

On Wednesday, she went to register her 9-year-old daughter at Garret Elementary. Angie says the school told her she had to have a utility bill with her name and address on it. Problem is, Angie lives with her mother and those bills are in her name.

"I know that I'm not the only parent this has happened to. I've talked to several people who tried to register their children, and were told if you didn't have a utility bill you couldn't register them. And not everybody is going to have a utility bill in their name," Miller said.

Angie says the next day she was able to get her child registered using her cellphone bill. But she says this could be a problem for parents who wait till the last minute.

"But the most important requirement, that we seem to have a problem with right now, is the proof of residency. If you live in the Hephzibah zone and you want to go to Hephzibah. You still need to prove that you live in that residence," Dr. Ronald Wiggins said.

Dr. Ronald Wiggins is the Principal at T.W. Josey High School and says if you're registering your child for school, there are several forms you are required to bring:

A copy of withdrawal form from the last school attended, a copy of your most recent report card from last school attended, and proof of residency, like a water or power bill.

For out of state students, you are required to bring a copy of your immunization record and eye, ear, and dental exam.

If you are registering Friday, Principal Wiggins says don't try to register before school starts. He says it's best if you wait an hour for things to settle down before you come in.
