An incident report says Kitchings approached her in the gym and asked her to come with him.

When she repeatedly said no, he told her he had a gun.

The report also says when she tried to run away, he pushed her to the ground and tried to choke her.

"She had injuries consistent with the story she gave us," said Lt. Scott Peebles with Richmond County.

The school's principal is investigating how the students were able to walk away from the school.

Kitchings is being charged as an adult, but is being held at the Youth Detention Center because he's still a minor.

Columbia County school rezoning

School board members in Columbia County are planning for school rezoning.

The county is making room for a new elementary school, and your child may be affected.

Grovetown Elementary will lose about 250 students when the new school opens.

Growth in that area means a lot more students.

This year, the school has six portables--the most they've ever had.

Along with the new school, five other elementary schools will be affected by the zoning plan.

They are Grovetown, North Harlem, Euchee Creek, Lewiston, and Brookwood.
