The Georgia Department of Transportation announces that westbound traffic on I-20 will be paced on Monday, January 8 and continue throughout the week between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Pacing will begin at South Carolina Exit 1. Law Enforcement vehicles will be placed at the on ramps of Georgia Exit 200 and 199 to prevent traffic from entering I-20 Westbound. These ramps will be reopened after the pacing vehicles pass.
Pacing will occur to safely remove the existing Walton Way Ext. overpass bridge to facilitate the ongoing widening project, and a lane closure will also be in place at the bridge site to allow room to remove the existing beams.
The pacing that occurred on January 4 and 5 was due to unforeseen circumstances in preparing for the demolition of the existing overpass.
As with all road construction, motorists are advised to use extra caution in
construction work zones.
