North Augusta house fire destroys garage

A garage is destroyed after fire breaks out in North Augusta. It happened on Bradley Drive, off of Bradleyville Road. Firefighters worked to protect the rest of the home from the flames. No word yet on what caused the fire.

James Brown funeral arrangements set

The body of James Brown was brought back to Augusta from Atlanta yesterday. The reverend Al Sharpton was at the C.A. Reed Senior Memorial funeral home to offer support to Brown's family.

Funeral plans are now complete. Thursday, Brown will lie in state at the Apollo Theater in New York from 1 until 8 o'clock. A private ceremony for family will be held Friday in Augusta. On Saturday, a ceremony for the public will be held at 1 o'clock at the James Brown Arena, with the reverend Al Sharpton officiating.

Mr. Brown's body will be buried near the arena off Sand Bar Ferry Road next to where his father and mother are buried.

Augusta remembers James Brown

Brown's producer and long time friend Charles Bobbitt had this to say Monday: "He was all for children, all for America, and all for love. His thing was, 'I never met a person that I didn't love. I've met a person that I didn't like, but I've never met a person that I didn't love'."

Those words were echoed by many folks in Augusta yesterday.

Today, the reverend Al Sharpton will honor James Brown on the radio. The show will air from 1 to 4 p.m. The show was supposed to air yesterday but was postponed.

Lawyer says Tomi Rae Hynie not married to James Brown

Legal battles over James Brown's estate have already started. Yesterday, his lawyer, Buddy Dallas confirmed to News 12 that Tomi Rae Hynie, the woman who claims to be married to Brown, is not legally married to him. He says that's why she was not allowed in his Beech Island house Monday night.

Tomi Rae says she is married to James Brown.

"I'm grieving my husband with the rest of the world, and it's hard for me, and I'm just trying to still believe it's true," she said. "I just don't understand. I really don't. I'm confused and I'm very hurt."

Tomi Rae was James Brown's fourth wife. They were married in 2002, but the marriage was later annulled. His lawyer says she was already married to a Texas man in 2001 when she married Brown, making her marriage to the entertainer null and void.

Augusta high school burglarized twice

An Augusta high school is closed for winter break, but that didn't stop thieves from burglarizing it over the holiday weekend. Nearly $3500 worth of tools were stolen from a construction area at A.R. Johnson High School on Laney Walker Boulevard. The tools were taken in two separate break-ins on Saturday and Sunday.

Search for missing Allendale teen resumes

In Allendale County, the search for a missing teenage girl will resume today. Erica Bradley's family tells News 12 a team from Texas Equisearch will join the effort. That group uses horses that are helpful in rural areas. Another group, Low Country Canine Rescue Service from Walterboro, South Carolina, is also coming with search dogs.

Erica Bradley has been missing more than seven weeks after she left work.

18-wheeler runs into embankment off I-20 in Aiken County

There were some major traffic jams along parts of I-20 in Aiken County much of the day yesterday after a wreck involving an 18-wheeler. The truck ran off the road and down an embankment. Traffic on I-20 northeast of Aiken was very slow into the evening.

The trucker wasn't hurt, but did get a ticket for speeding.
