AUGUSTA, Ga. ---"I was finding fault in me saying I let her down because I couldn't find her."
Randy Williams is talking about the nearly 4-day search for his mother 85-year old Elizabeth Bert. Randy along with a team of volunteers and deputies found her body on a log in the woods.
"It was a lot of tears. Tears of joy that we found her but tears of how we found her. There was a lot of heartache," said Elizabeth Bert's son Randy Williams.
There's a lot of heartache and questions about how the Alzheimer's patient was able to just walk away.
"Sixty-seven percent of people with Alzheimer's will wander. It's the greatest fear and we never know when it'll happen,"said Kathy Tuckey of the Augusta Alzheimer's Association.
But the Alzheimer's Association says there are ways to try and prevent it like using a radio tracking bracelets. If someone goes missing, law enforcement can find them in about 20 minutes. They also recommend putting an alarm on the door so you can hear when someone leaves and something as simple as putting a black mat in front of doors. They say it gives the illusion of a hole to Alzheimer patients and they tend not to cross it.
Reporter: Do you feel the personal care home let you down?
Randy: Yes, I really do but you got to get closure one thing at a time. But right now, I got to get closure with my mom, then I'll get closure with the personal care home. Words can't put in place how much I'm going to miss her. For so long I was her baby and now I lost my baby.
