NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Former NFL MVP Steve McNair has been
shot and killed.
Local TV stations say Police confirm McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville.
The incident happened near 2nd South & Lea Ave. Police said it looked like a double homicide. A female victim was also found dead.
McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and the Baltimore Ravens. He was named NFL MVP in 2003.
He retired from the NFL in April 2008.
Titans owner Bud Adams confirmed the quarterback's death in a brief statement released Saturday.
Adams called him "one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl."
McNair led the Titans within a yard of forcing overtime in the
2000 Super Bowl.
