AUGUSTA, Ga.---News 12's Jonathan Martin spoke with James Brown today about his annual toy giveaway. The Godfather took the opportunity to thank everyone who helped with the giveaway and to wish our soldiers a Merry Christmas.

This is one of those days where people are going to come out whether it's rain or shine, and they certainly did that today.

"I feel very very good because I've got the men with me, I've got God with me...my daughter, a whole lotta people," Brown said. "But most of all, I just want to say thank you for coming out...and trying to contribute to the things that are needed so bad. People that need. So we got to learn to love each other and continue doing that."

Brown has been giving away toys each year for 15 years. Even when he's not feeling well, he comes out.

"I come out because I want to do this," he said. "It's a duty as a human being. I do that as a citizen of this country.

"We got a lot of people out there fighting," he went on. "I want to say Merry, Merry Christmas to those that can't see their loved ones."

The toy giveaway was a collective effort this year. Comcast, Mayor Deke Copenhaver, and Commissioner Joe Bowles were among those donating toys.
