Fort Gordon
Independence Day Celebration
Fort Gordon will be celebrating the nation's Independence Day July 2 on Barton Field to allow for Soldiers to celebrate the holiday with their Families on July 4. The U.S. Army Signal Corps Band will perform. There will be live entertainment, children's carnival rides, games, pony rides, food concessions and craft vendors, and the Better Opportunities for Single Service Members' bike show. It all begins at 5 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled at 9:40 p.m.

22nd annual Lake Freedom Fireworks Spectacular
Location: Little River Marina and Family Resort in Appling
Old-fashioned contests start at 3 p.m. and include watermelon seed-spitting and eating, horse shoes, sack races, three-legged races and a raw egg toss. A Christian concert begins at 6 p.m. and fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.
Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children.
No coolers or alcohol are allowed. Food vendors will be at the event.
Jenkins County
Fireworks
Jenkins County residents will have the opportunity to enjoy a spectacular fireworks show Friday, July 3, in celebration of the nation's birthday. The event will take place 7:30 p.m. at the Jenkins County Recreation Department complex.
McDuffie County

Aiken
Rose Hill day-long 4th of July event
This year's July 4th event will bring together various indigenous American musical styles -- country, blues, Beach Music and gospel music -- and will once again raise money to support the Aiken County Veterans Council's Fisher House Fund, a project to help build a Fisher House in Augusta to accommodate the families of service personnel being treated at the VA Medical Centers.
Admission is by donation.
Gates will open at 2:30 p.m. with entertainment to begin at 2:45. A special Independence Day buffet lunch will be available for sale, as well as a cash bar and cash grille.

22nd annual July Fourth Barbecue
Location: Liberty Park Community Center on Newmantown Road in Grovetown
Time: Noon until the barbecue runs out, usually about 3 p.m.
Barbecue is free and includes hash and rice, bread and pickles. Hot dogs and chips also will be available. Takeout plates cost $5. Live entertainment will include karaoke and performances by Durell Morris and the Southern Bluegrass Boys. Prizes will be given out beginning at about 1:30 p.m.
