One vehicle accident leaves one dead

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating what happened in a wreck overnight.

One person was killed on Huber Clay Road off Pine Log Road around 12:30. Deputies say only one car was involved.

Skinner Mill BP robbed

A man who stole money from a BP gas station is still on the run this morning.

Around 11 o'clock Thursday night, he went into the station on Skinner Mill Road and Walton Way Extension.

While the clerk was closing, the man jumped the counter and took money from the drawer and safe.

After that, he hit the clerk in the back of the head with a pistol and ran out.

The clerk is okay.

20 Evans High students arrested for fighting at convenience store

20 Evans High School students bonded out of jail after a big fight behind Wally's Convenience Store on North Belair Road Tuesday.

All the teens were charged with disorderly conduct.

Officers received conflicting reports on the incident. Some witnesses say only a few of the students were fighting.

One parent we talked to, Doug Mayneschein, is upset because his son, who says he was sitting in the parking lot, was also arrested.

"Police showed up, everybody ran, those who set still and did what they were told, they're getting cited. I don't think that's right."

All of the teenagers were released on $275 bond.

A hearing is set for January 10.

Man wanted for assault, drug possession

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office needs your help locating 45-year-old Leslie Craft. Craft is wanted for two counts of aggravated assault, false identification, possession of meth and marijuana.

If you have information leading to his arrest, call the sheriff's office.

Mayor's former campaign manager cleared of election fraud

Mayor Deke Copenhaver's former campaign manager from last year is cleared of election fraud.

The state board of elections says Tim Moses did not break any state laws.

A complaint about Moses had been made at the elections office.

There is a provision in the law that says no election official can participate in any political activity on behalf of a candidate.

Moses is Richmond County's board of elections vice chairman.

Development Authority won't give city proposed drag strip land

City leaders are nowhere near the finish line in their plans for a drag strip in Augusta.

Thursday the Development Authority voted not to give the city the land in south Augusta chosen for the site.

The Development Authority said they would rather keep property along Mike Padgett Highway for a big industrial development.

But their plans didn't exactly go over well with neighbors there either.

Christmas traffic crackdown coming

Traffic enforcement officers are gearing up for their Christmas crackdown in Richmond County.

Today starts Operation Zero Tolerance.

Officers are looking to pull impaired and dangerous drivers off the highways during the holiday travel season. They have already made over 500 DUI arrests this year.

Operation Zero Tolerance runs through January 1.
