AUGUSTA, Ga.---It's a sight to see cruising through downtown Augusta.
"You're able to maneuver around town, park in a typical parallel parking spot without ever hitting reverse," Mike Tomberlin said.
The eco-friendly Tomberlin Anvil was created and designed as a street legal low speed vehicle. Mike Tomberlin of Tomberlin Automotive Group says it's a vehicle with a purpose for close-end commuting.
"It's doing the right thing, it's green. It's all the points that we've articulated, I think is the reason why this product will be successful," Tomberlin said.
The Anvil is an electric powered vehicle that can go up to 25 miles per hour. You can legally drive it on any road of with a speed limit of 35 miles an hour or less, and it's a smooth and quiet ride.
With the onboard smart charge system, the Anvil can be charged overnight by any household outlet. Tomberlin says there's 15 billion miles a week that American commuters are using their vehicles to drive to the grocery store, church, school, all within 6.9 miles of their home. He says you can go green by driving an Anvil, instead of driving an SUV a mile down the road.
"We're all about delivering a product that America needs now," Tomberlin said.
Next week, they'll be launching the Anvil on the CBS Early Show in New York.
"It'll be an opportunity for us to tell America about what we're bringing, which is a solution to a lot of the problems we're facing with regards to being green, carbon foot print, imported oil," Tomberlin said.
It's something they've been working on for years, and now they say it's about to take off.
If you're interested in getting one of these new electric vehicles, all you have to do is go to http://reservemyanvil.com/ or go to their store on Washington Road to reserve one.
The Anvil costs $16,000. Tomberlin says this vehicle qualifies for both state and federal tax credits.
The Tomberlin Group will debut the Anvil on June 29 at 8:00 a.m. on the CBS Early Show.
