RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga.---An augusta man is recovering after 2 dogs attack him, even sending him to the hospital.
It happened on the 1100 block of Anderson Avenue in Augusta around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Neighbors tell News 12 Charles Jackson was just walking down the street to his sister's house when the two dogs got out of their yard and attacked.
"They tend to get the most exposure because unfortunately they do the most damage," said Diane Downs, the director of Richmond County Animal Control.
Although a pit bulls attack may not sound surprising to some people, she says they're not alone.
"It's fairly common with pit bulls but then again we have many bite cases that have different breeds of dogs other than pit bulls," said Downs.
Animal control has had 139 complaints of animal bites this year, with 26 of them being pit bull cases. That's about 19-percent and is the most out of all dogs.
In this case on Anderson Avenue, the two dogs were not restrained in their yard. There's a pen for them, but there's a gap in the fence leading to the street.
"[The owner] could be facing quite a few problems not only with court fines but also medical restitution for the person bitten," said Downs.
Animal Control has not been contacted by the owner yet. He could face charges of breaking the leash law and failure to control an animal and he could face more charges if the dogs aren't up to date on their shots.
The two pit bulls will be quarantined for ten days. If the owner comes forward, he might be able to get the dogs back, but that will be left up to a judge.
