On Thanksgiving Day, people all across the area were out volunteering to make sure others have a happy holiday.

From Graniteville to Augusta, those in need received food and fellowship, served up at the same time.

In an event called the Community Thanksgiving, several churches around Graniteville joined forces to feed nearly 400 people.

Church members not only fed those in need, but also offered fellowship.

It took weeks of preparation and time to make sure things were just right for this community thanksgiving.

"We've been preparing for weeks and asking churches to get together and help and donate, time, food, and money," said volunteer Paulette Fields.

Rev. Earl Carter is spreading his thankfulness. Just a year ago he was shot during a shooting rampage by a masked gunman outside a North Augusta Huddle House.

His life was spared. He feels the need to give back.

"Sometimes tragedy brings people together," he said. "We just want to reach out and touch their lives the way ours has been touched."

He volunteered to share hot meals and fellowship with those who had no place to go.

"We just want to reach out to the community for those who can't have a Thanksgiving Dinner today, and share the love of Jesus Christ with them."

Local churches bonded together as a team to feed those in need. They consider themselves a baseball team, and they say Jesus Christ is the coach.

"Each church is like a member of a body," Fields said. "One is the head, you need arms, need legs and we need all churches working together to get the job done."

That job has netted a home run for this baseball team for Christ.

After today the homeless still need food to eat. Contact your local food banks to find out how you can help.
