Retired deputy faces murder charges

A retired Edgefield County deputy is facing murder charges in the shooting death of a Johnston man.

Ollie Dwight Hall, also from Johnston, is charged with murdering Gregory Jones.

Jones was killed Saturday night.

Several witnesses were there at the time of the shooting.

As well as being retired from the Edgefield County Sheriff's Department, Hall is also a former Johnston police officer.

"It's not shocking, but it's disappointing, you know, because this is usually a fairly peaceful town," said Johnston police Chief Chris Aston. "We have problems like any other town, but it's a shock to the citizens when you have something like this, because the citizens here are a fairly close knit community."

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is in charge of the investigation.
