Augusta commissioners have given the green light on building a drag strip in south Augusta, but one group plans to put the brakes on the plan.
Woody Merry, leader of the watchdog group CSRA Help, has scheduled a news conference for tomorrow morning. He says he will present a list of concerns from the community telling why the city's investment in this project is a bad idea.
"We're going to basically say the commissioners have not done their homework," Merry said. "Besides, the study that they're basing this on is flawed. There are many different issues that have not been addressed that are of huge concern for our community."
Right now, the city administrator is working to purchase the land from the Development Authority before securing $6 million in bonds for development of the racetrack.
