It was a disturbing scene this morning for thousands of commuters along I-20 when a family dispute ended in death.

There were lots of cop cars and crime scene tape at I-20 near the Savannah River.

You or a friend may have seen it this morning. Part of I-20 closed down after a man killed himself in front of his wife and baby.

The baby wasn't hurt. The wife was shot in the leg.

The 15-month-old little girl sat and watched as her father took his own life, shooting her mother in the process.

Family members are struggling to deal with today's violence.

Dozens of patrol cars and crime tape littered the median of I-20 as family members clung to one another looking for answers.

Investigators say 27-year-old Martinez Curry and his wife Kambre were fighting in the car as they were heading towards Augusta when they finally pulled off to the side of the road.

"When deputies arrived they found a dead man on the passenger side of gray, four-door Impala," Lt. Michael Frank of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office told News 12.

Kambre was trying to take their 15-month-old daughter out of the car seat when her husband pulled the trigger.

“Based on our preliminary investigation, it appears the couple got into an argument outside the car,” said Sheriff Michael Hunt. “Mr. Curry then walked to the passenger side, sat in the seat and shot himself in the head with a handgun. The bullet then traveled though the car and hit Mrs. Curry in the left leg as she removed a small girl from a child safety seat.”

It appears the suicide was the result of an on-going dispute between the couple over the past week.

The sheriff's office has no record of any prior domestic disputes. Family members say the couple had only been married a year, and this came out of nowhere.

"If they had any problems, I don't know," said family friend Willie Parker, Jr.

The baby was not injured during the suicide; however, the mother was taken to MCG.

The autopsy has been completed. As expected, it shows Martinez Curry died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The .45 caliber that Martinez used this morning was reported stolen in Richmond County back in January 2001. We don't know how long Martinez had the gun.
