THOMSON, Ga.---According to Dianne Landers, Thomson’s city clerk, the city is changing its procedure for billing of residents.
Beginning in May, the city will no longer be sending out late notices for water, gas, sewer and garbage. This is being done to reduce costs for the city. Ms. Landers said this could amount to savings of $8000 to $9000 just in postage and paper. They would also be saving on manpower involved in the processing.
Residents would normally get a late notice around the 10th to the 12th of the month, but will not receive one beginning this month. Residents will have ten days from the date the bill is sent to pay the bill in full. After ten days, a 10 percent penalty will be assessed. After 20 days, service will be disconnected or discontinued.
