Today was the last day to register in Georgia to vote in the November general election.

The Board of Elections office says more than 500 voters have registered to vote over the past month.

This past week the Board of Elections has authorized nearly 30 voter registration drives, and they've seen a dramatic increase in the number of new voter registration cards being filled out.

It's a ballot that is driving people to register.

Some of the most heated races are bringing people out to register to vote.

"We have seen our voter registration roles increase by 500 voters from the first of September to the first of October," said director of elections Lynn Bailey.

City of Refuge Christian Learning Center held its second voter registration drive today.

"Really there is no excuse not to vote," said Deacon Travon Wright. "It's no excuse."

Randy Wright wants to be counted in the number. He registered at the Board of Elections.

He recently moved to Augusta and wants to have a voice.

"I want the chance to vote if I want to," Wright said. "If I don't register then I have no option."

Statewide, Georgia will elect a governor. There are also a lot of local races, including choosing an Augusta mayor.

"Anytime you have an election when you have this many local candidates on the ballot, we do see a lot of voter registration drives going on," Bailey said.

While more than 500 new registered voters have been added to the database, elections officials say the real test will be if the new voters actually go to the polls and cast their vote.

All registrations had to be postmarked today, so your deadline has officially passed.
