AUGUSTA, Ga.---Augusta Judicial Circuit District Attorney Ashley Wright
will seek the death penalty for both defendants in a Columbia County murder case.

Defense attorneys Vick and Jacque Hawk received the notice Friday.
The brothers represent Rebecca Sears and Christopher Bowers. They were indicted earlier this week on murder, robbery and burglary charges in the death of Laverne "Kay" Parsons in the Grovetown area.

The indictments say Mrs. Parsons was beaten to death with a claw hammer and a baseball bat, and that her watch and a necklace were stolen during the attack.

The notice to seek the death penalty against both defendants will trigger a new round of court hearings. In death penalty cases, each
defendant must be represented by two attornies in court, with at least one of them having prior experience in a death penalty case.
