AUGUSTA, Ga.---The Development Authority of Richmond County announced today that American Tire Distributors, the nation’s leading distributor of tires, will build a new 81,000 square foot distribution facility in Augusta, beginning immediately. The announcement was made by Chairman Terry Elam of the Development Authority of Richmond County, Dick Johnson of American Tire Distributors, and Greg Turnage of Pinecrest Development Company.
American Tire Distributors will greatly expand their presence and operation in the Augusta market growing from a facility that today is only 15,600 sf. The Augusta distribution facility will be located near the intersection of Gordon Highway and Bobby Jones Expressway (Interstate 520) on Noland Drive in South Augusta. The new facility will result in 30 new jobs and an investment of more than $4 million.
In making the announcement, Development Authority Chairman Terry Elam said, “American Tire Distributors is one of the best recognized names in the tire distribution world, and we are excited about their new facility in Augusta. The leadership of American Tire Distributors and Pinecrest Development saw Augusta’s excellent workforce, top-notch training opportunities, convenient transportation and the distribution possibilities, and made the right decision to invest in Augusta-Richmond County.”
Walter Sprouse, the Executive Director of the Development Authority of Richmond County, said, “This project started nearly four years ago, and lots of team players worked to make this major location possible for Augusta. Wendy Bibb of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, John Perryman and Charles Stallworth of Georgia Power, our staff and board, a variety of real estate professionals in the Augusta area, Greg Turnage and the good people at American Tire Distributors made this new facility a reality.”
Dick Johnson of American Tire Distributors said, “Our new facility in Augusta will allow us to be much more efficient in distributing tires to our customers in this area. Our location on Noland Drive in Augusta is an excellent location for our trucks and for our pick-up customers as well.”
Greg Turnage of Pinecrest Development said, “We were convinced that Augusta was the right place to help American Tire Distributors grow because of the work ethic and the excellent business climate in Augusta-Richmond County. Now, with this new facility, American Tire Distributors will be able to serve its customers more effectively and efficiently.”
