It was a scary night for a girls' softball team in Augusta after someone threw an object at their bus windshield.

It happened on Friday night after a game at Tutt Middle School.

News 12's Diane Cho sat down with the bus driver who shares the horrifying experience.

Richmond County school bus driver Wanda Barton says she loves her job...but what happened Friday night could keep her from rolling on.

"It hit the front windshield and splattered," she said. "It felt like hot stuff hit me, and I told everyone to get down."

Barton says she didn't even drive 20 feet before she thought a bullet shattered the window.

"Everybody was panicking. It was scary. I thought I was going to have a heart attack."

Barton was picking up a busload of Glenn Hills Middle softball players from Tutt Middle when it happened.

The glass shattered so close to her face, shards landed on her eyelashes.

"Glass all over my arms," she said. "I spent all of last night in the emergency room getting my eyes flushed out."

In photos taken just after the attack, it looks like someone threw a rock right at the front windshield.

"Afterwards we saw a boy on a bike at the top of the hill running away," Barton said.

They never found out who it was or what he actually threw, but Wanda says it's not the first time their buses have been vandalized, and parents need to know what's going on.

"Just a couple weeks ago, we had shootings up there, another bus," she said.

While no one was hurt this time, she worries about the next.

"I'm afraid next time it will be a hit. These kids think it's a game. Someone's going to get hurt."

Dr. Larke and the transportation director declined to comment on camera because the investigation is still underway.

This is just the latest act of vandalism on buses recently in Richmond County.

Just last week, two buses were hit with bricks while driving on the road.
