Richmond County Sheriff's investigators say a 16-year-old Westside High school student was trying to cross the road when she was struck by a car. It happened on the 3000 block of Deans Bridge Road near the Number One Mobile Home Park.

Alesia Henderson was killed when the car hit her. Officers say the weather, the darkness, and the color of her clothing may have played a part in the accident.

It's a sound that keeps replaying in Marques McCoy's head. "Boom, and she went flying in the air," he said. "I said, 'Le Le.'"

It was too late...the impact from a car killed his girlfriend, 16-year-old Alesia Henderson.

"She just stayed there," said McCoy. "I said, 'Le Le, please wake up, please wake up.'"

The incident report reveals the two were crossing Deans Bridge Road from Alesia's bus stop in front of her home.

She never made it across.

"I walk out first, and then I got to the second lane of the street, and the lady zoomed past me and I heard boom and she went in the air and came back down," said McCoy.

The former Glenn Hills High School student chose to attend Westside this year because Glenn Hills failed to meet Adequate Yearly Progress. Her family says she was getting her life in order.

And now all Marques has are a bear and a belt he gave her, and the last words he heard his girlfriend say before she was hit.

"I said, 'I love you, Le Le,' and she said, 'I love you, baby.'"

61-year-old Sandra Chavous of Augusta was driving the car. Officers say they do not expect to charge her in this accident.
