Board of Elections to examine Few's qualifications

The Board of Elections is taking a closer look at Ronnie Few's qualifications to run for Augusta mayor.

Woody Merry and Melanie Roy challenged Few's residency in Richmond County.

This comes after he signed a homestead exemption in Columbia County that gives Few a tax break for a home in Columbia County.

His challengers say Few is not eligible to run.

"If you declare a homestead exemption, that's where you live, it's real cut and dry," said Woody Merry's attorney, Joe Neal. "It's black and white."

Few left the meeting refusing to comment, but his campaign released a statement on his behalf, saying:

"The law is the law. He resides in Richmond County and he votes in Richmond County, and in regards to the document, the law is the law."

GBI investigating shooting of shoplifter by Wadley police officer

The GBI is still looking into a shooting Friday where a police officer shot a man.

It happened in Wadley.

An incident report says Wadley police officer Donald Medows shot Walter Graham, Jr. once in the stomach.

It all stems from an alleged shoplifting incident at the Family Dollar store nearby.

Officers say when Officer Medows confronted Graham about the stolen watches, he refused to follow orders.

51-year-old Graham was pronounced dead early Saturday morning after he was taken to the hospital.

Officer Medows has been temporarily relieved of duty during the investigation.
