Popular Augusta interchanged named for Henry Howard

September 5, 2006

A popular interchange in Augusta has a new name.

Today, the interchange at Deans Bridge Road and Bobby Jones Expressway was renamed the Henry L. Howard Memorial Interchange.

This location was chosen because it's a road. Mrs. Howard says her husband traveled often.

Today's date was chosen because it's the Howard's wedding anniversary.

The late Henry Howard was well known as a former Augusta commissioner, and throughout the state of Georgia as a representative for District 121.

Today's unveiling is part of Mr. Howard's continuing legacy.

"His legacy was loving, working with, helping people, anyone that needed help," said Howard's widow, District 121 Rep. Ernestine Howard. "This was a part of his district, and not just because it's a part of his district, but he loved helping anyone, regardless of who it was, wherever they lived."

Today's unveiling took place at the Augusta Tech campus.

Henry Howard was 75 when he died last year.
