A bullet hole was discovered in Richmond County school superintendent Dr. Charles Larke's conference room window shortly after 9 o'clock this morning, and investigators say they have no leads.

Board of Education Public Safety director Julia Stein told News 12, "At this time we don't know if this was random, intentional..."

What Stein does know is it happened sometime overnight and was found this morning by a custodian.

There was a bullet fragment on the windowsill that might help investigators figure out what type of gun was used.

"After realizing a bullet had come through his conference room window we started our investigation," Stein said. "At this time, we are actively pursuing the case and looking into it. There is nothing that makes us believe it was intentional at this time."

Board member Barbara Pulliam says she's surprised to hear of the vandalism. In a statement to News 12 Pulliam says:

It's too bad we have to deal with these kind of things--breaking the law, crime...but I don't think it's related to anything going on with the board right now. And I hope they find whoever is responsible.

Dr. Larke is no stranger to controversy. He's accused of mishandling more than $600,000 in taxpayer money.

Larke says it was used to give pay advances to employees in need, and he defends his actions saying the payment practice had been in effect since before he took office in 1996.

Still, lots of questions remain, and it looks like the school board is under fire in more ways than one.

The Board of Education Public Safety Department is in charge of the investigation. Anyone with any information is urged to call 706-826-1133. Callers can remain anonymous.
