GREENVILLE, S.C.---Greenville Republican Sen. Mike Fair is working on a bill that would require a mandatory prison sentence for child care providers who hurt children.
Causing serious injury to a child is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, but there is currently no minimum sentence.
The senator was bothered by a case in which a home day care provider didn't get any prison time after pleading guilty to slapping a seven-month-old so hard the child suffered bleeding in the brain.
