Richmond county investigators want to know who shot and killed 69-year-old Larry Willie Knighton.
His wife found him dead after she came home from a trip...and neighbors say they want deputies to start paying more attention to the area they call home.
Knighton's wife found his body Sunday afternoon at 103 Leroy Street in Augusta. That's in a neighborhood just off Kissingbower, across the street from Regency Mall.
The autopsy showed that Knighton was shot multiple times.
Meanwhile, people in this neighborhood say this is just the latest in a string of crimes.
Instead of coming home to share memories of a fond vacation, the Knightons came back to the scene of a crime.
69-year-old grandfather and father Larry Knighton was found shot to death halfway inside the door.
His own wife found the body.
"We're not going to speculate, we're going to let the investigation run its course," said Inv. Ron Sylvester.
Neighbors say they've been robbed more than once, and the crime here has just gone from bad to worse.
Now with the threat of more deputies being cut from the department, neighbors worry those patrols won't be coming here.
"Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of this before someone else gets shot here," said Greg Shaffer, a friend of the victim.
The sheriff's office is offering a reward for information that may lead to an arrest in the case.
If you have any information, you are asked to call the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at 706-821-1080.
This is shaping up to be a violent year in the city. Knighton's death is the fifteenth homicide this year. That's the same as the total number of homicides in all of 2005.
