Truck carrying 16 bombs crashes on I-20

Video will be available shortly.

A contract truck for the Air Force carrying 16 bombs has crashed on I-20 eastbound near mile marker 187. That's between the Grovetown and Harlem exits.

Coming out of the weigh station, the truck went off the road down a 15-foot embankment.

The truck did not overturn, and authorities say there is no danger to the public. A spokesperson from Fort Gordon says the bombs would need to be fused before they could detonate.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Department and the Columbia County Fire Department are on the scene. A crew from Fort Gordon is also there, but the bombs were not being transported to or from Fort Gordon.

The 16 bombs weigh 2000 pounds apiece.

The Explosive Ordnance Detail from Fort Gillem, near Atlanta, is on the way. The Detail responds whenever there is an incident involving a military explosive device.
