Fort Gordon breaks ground on new housing development

August 15, 2006

Soldiers at Fort Gordon will soon have better quality living.

Today, senior officials of the US Army joined GMH Military Housing for a groundbreaking ceremony on a new housing development inside the base.

The $110 million project will bring high quality housing communities to military families at Fort Gordon.

Brig. Gen. Randy Strong says the new homes will cater to the modern soldiers.

"The soldier today is a married soldier with children, and quality of life is important to them," he said. "Whereas 40 years ago, he's more of a single soldier, a soldier who was drafted in the Army."

The new townhouse-style homes are expected for completion next year. They will feature four bedrooms and a single car garage with off-street parking.
