Man arrested in Washington Road bank robbery

August 11, 2006

Richmond County deputies are investigating a bank robbery.

A man went into the Georgia Bank and Trust at 3133 Washington Road and demanded money.

The man said he had a gun, but never showed one.

He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

There was a short chase, and the man was taken into custody.

"Inside the vehicle we discovered money from the bank," says Sgt. Richard Roundtree. "At this time, the investigation is ongoing."

The man was caught on Sterling Drive off River Watch Parkway.

Fast action and a good description of the vehicle by bank employees are how the police caught the suspect.
