The Grovetown Department of Public Safety reports that shortly after 6:30 a.m. this morning, two CSX trains traveling in opposite directions on the same tracks collided head-on at Ford and Railroad Streets in the city of Grovetown.
One train was transports gravel and one transports coal. The gravel train was empty. Three of the cars on the empty gravel train derailed and both engines are still on the tracks.
The CSX Transportation Derailment Team is on the scene and will be working to remove the derailed cars, but all roads are open to traffic.
There was one minor injury, no diesel is leaking at this time, and no chemicals are involved.
