A man's body was found after a fire was cleared on Old McDuffie Road.
And another body has been found in the Glenwood Apartments on Lumpkin Road.
Richmond County deputies are investigating a body found on the 3000 block of Old McDuffie Road. It is being treated as a murder.
Monday morning, shortly after 11:00 a.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the dead end of Old McDuffie Road at Bobby Jones Expressway where a body that had been found in a brush fire. Preliminary investigation reveals that the body of an unidentified black male appeared to have been dumped on the side of the road in some brush at the dead end of Old McDuffie Road.
The brush was apparently ignited in an effort to destroy evidence. The victim appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday morning at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta. Efforts to identify the victim are underway at this time.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is asking that anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in that area please call them at 706-821-1080. Anyone concerned about the identity of the victim is also asked to call the Sheriff’s Office.
Another body was found in an apartment on Lumpkin Road. The body of a woman was found at the Glenwood Apartments.
A maintenance man had gone to the apartment after a report of water running for hours.
The woman's body has been sent to the crime lab to try to determine how she died.
There is no word on whether these two cases are related in any way.
