Two men are dead after an accident on the Aiken County/Lexington County line the morning of July 6.
It happened on Highway 302 right over the border near Pelion.
Just before 4:30, less than a mile from the Aiken-Lexington County border, state troopers say a GMC pickup going west on Highway 302 drifted across the center of the lane, and hit an oncoming Mazda pickup.
The Lexington County coroner says 48-year-old Melvin Belcher of Salley and 51-year-old Tomas Spires of Windsor were both killed in the crash. Their vehicle also caught on fire.
The coroner says Howard McNair was driving the GMC pickup when he fell asleep and crossed into the other lane, causing the crash.
McNair was taken to a hospital in Columbia.
