York Street murder suspect captured in Asheville, NC

Video will be available shortly.

Police in Asheville, North Carolina have arrested Craig Baldwin, the Aiken man accused of murdering his elderly mother, Dale Baldwin, at their York Street home nearly three weeks ago. Baldwin is booked as inmate number 124907 at the Buncombe County Detention Center, awaiting an extradition hearing.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety issued an arrest warrant Wednesday and a nationwide alert went out to media outlets in and around Lexington, Kentucky, where Baldwin had last been spotted at his daughter's wedding on June 24.

Thursday, at 8:45, in a hotel room in Asheville, North Carolina, U.S. Marshals arrested Baldwin. He was taken into custody without incident by deputies and the Asheville Police Department's SWAT team.

Baldwin was found at the Rock Haven Terrace Motel in Asheville, when a captain with the sheriff's department spotted his car.

According to Sgt. David Turno of Aiken Public Safety, Baldwin will be returned to Aiken, where he will likely stand trial for the murder of his mother, 83-year-old Dale Baldwin.

Baldwin is accused of killing her, wrapping her in a sheet, and leaving her dead body behind bushes in the front yard.

A case that has rattled neighbors for weeks is now one step closer to being solved.

Craig Baldwin was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center. He is awaiting extradition proceedings.

Baldwin has an extensive criminal history.

His record includes DUI, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, theft, failure to appear in court, and violating a protective order.
