News 12 has learned the U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $5000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Craig Bogert Baldwin.
Baldwin is accused of killing his 83-year-old mother, Dale Baldwin.
Her body was found last Friday, wrapped in a blanket in her yard.
"Just hard to believe," says Curtis Jamison. Jamison was Dale Baldwin's gardener. "I heard about this, but I never thought it was her. She was a sweet lady. Very sweet. And I don't see how whoever did it..."
Jamison is just one of many in the community shocked to hear about what happened. News 12 also spoke to a neighbor who described Dale Baldwin as a very pleasant person who could often be seen out walking near her York Street home.
Craig Baldwin may be driving a light blue 2002 Toyota Camry, with South Carolina license plates W66040.
Baldwin was last seen Saturday, June 24 in Lexington, Kentucky at his daughter's wedding.
He is considered dangerous, and the U.S. Marshals warn his behavior is unpredictable.
His whereabouts are currently unknown; Aiken Public Safety is on the lookout in case Baldwin returns to his home on York Street. They say he could be anywhere. Law enforcement all over the country have Baldwin's description.
Baldwin has lived in Santa Fe, Savannah, and Hilton Head Island. Some of the Baldwin family lives in the Lexington, Kentucky area.
U.S. Marshals believe Baldwin embezzled tens of thousands of dollars from his mother's bank account shortly before her killing.
He also has a long list of prior offenses, including D.U.I., resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, theft, failure to appear in court, and violating a protective order.
Authorities believe Dale Baldwin was killed June 16. They are still waiting for the official paperwork to be completed before releasing the cause of death.
Aiken deputies are out on surveillance in case Baldwin comes back. "This was his last known place of residence, so we are keeping a close eye on this residence in case he does come back," says Sgt. David Turno.
Anyone with any information about Craig Baldwin is urged to call the United States Marshals Service at 803-765-5477 or 843-662-0750 or the Aiken Department of Public Safety at 803-642-7620 immediately.
