Judge rules plaintiffs temporarily exempt from sex offender law

A federal judge has stopped the state from forcing eight convicted sex offenders from having to move.

One is a Columbia County man, another a McDuffie County woman. They were among the plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed last week against enforcement of the new law.

The law takes effect Saturday. Another court hearing is set for July 11.

The judge could expand his order to include all 8800 sex offenders who are not in prison.
