COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Governor Mark Sanford tonight won the Republican nomination to seek re-election this fall.

Sanford beat Doctor Oscar Lovelace, a family practice physician from Prosperity.

With nearly half of the precincts reporting, Sanford has 63 percent of the votes to 37 percent for Lovelace.

Sanford was expected to win the nomination, with millions of dollars available for the campaign.

Sanford refused to debate Lovelace and never mentioned his name during the campaign.

Tammy Skelton of Simpsonville says she's been impressed with Sanford's growth during his first four years in office.

Wanda Wiggins of North Augusta says Sanford is very conservative and has done some things she likes.
