AIKEN COUNTY -- A Wagener, South Carolina man is dead tonight, after a fatal accident this afternoon.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton says 59-year-old Donnie Ray Swartz was not wearing a seatbelt and was dead on the scene of the crash on Highway 278.

The accident happened around 3:15 while Swartz was driving a Jennings Sanitation truck. He lost control on a narrow bridge and hit the guardrail on both sides of the bridge. The truck overturned, partially ejecting Swartz.

Two other people in the truck were hurt, but only one of them went to the hospital.

Right now, the cause of the crash is still being investigated. This is the 24th fatal crash in Aiken County this year.

What needs to be investigated is that bridge. Have you seen it??? Narrow is generous description. A truck and a car going in opposite directions can barely pass on it.
