Augusta, Ga. --- "Anybody that can survive a plane crash is very lucky," Medical Director, Dr. Fred Mullins said.
Two famous musicians are in Augusta getting care at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital.
"When you get burned like this it's not just a skin thing, it can affect the whole body, so it can take sometimes weeks or months for the full body to recuperate," Dr. Mullins said.
Dr. Mullins says Travis Barker is burned on his torso and lower body, and Adam Goldstein has burns on his arm and head from Friday night's plane crash.
"It can affect their movement and it can be very painful," Dr. Mullins said.
Doctors say Barker and Goldstein did not suffer any crash related injuries, so when their burn treatments are finished, they're expected to make a full recovery.
Doctors Hospital says celebrity or not, the patient's privacy goes hand in hand with top-notch care.
"We treat all patients special here. That's why we're so well known and other than adding some additional security, we are giving them the same wonderful care that we would give any of our patients," Chief Nursing Officer, Karen Swim said.
In fact, the burn center is the largest in the country with a more than 97% survival rate.
"When you approach these, you make sure there's no other complicating factors. You make sure their fluid is all resuscitated and then you deal with the skin burns and it can be anywhere from putting a cream on it, to putting a temporary skin to putting a skin graft on it," Dr. Mullins said.
In general, Dr. Mullins says it takes about a year for a burn to heal.
No word yet on how long Barker and Goldstein will be getting treatment in Augusta. Dr. Mullins says they have to be in stable condition before they can go to a hospital closer to home.
