Papa's got a brand new festival.
The Godfather of Soul, Mr. Dynamite, the Hardest Working Man in Show Business finally has a festival in his honor in his hometown.
The party for James Brown kicked off Friday evening in downtown Augusta.
Organizers said despite the small crowds as of News 12's 6 o'clock newscast, they were expecting a big crowd later Friday night and especially on Saturday, when James Brown himself was scheduled to perform three songs.
News 12 caught up with James Brown's daughter Deanna at the Augusta Common.
"This is the first time your father has been honored in this way," we said. "What does that mean to you, and what does that mean to him?"
"Well, he's very excited. He called me before I came down here today and kept me on the phone for about 45 minutes. I was like, 'Dad, I'm going to be late for work, I gotta go!' But he's very excited, because he's always wanted something big for Augusta. He loves his hometown; he takes it wherever he goes...he's very excited, and so am I."
We asked Deanna who out of the over 115 artists slated to perform at the festival she was excited to see.
"I'm not going to answer that question!" she said. "I'm excited to see everybody. How about that?"
