Johnston mayor Willie Campbell says police chief Butch Easler's termination is effective immediately.
Easler was suspended with pay back in September pending the outcome of a state investigation.
According to Campbell, Easler was accused of committing perjury and violating civil rights.
The state law enforcement division will not confirm that Easler is the subject of an investigation.
